A Christian Believes Adultery Is A Man Coveting Another Man’s Wife

A husband is supposed to lust after his wife, so Matt 5:28 can’t be saying a man who looks at any woman to lust after her commits adultery. In the Old Testament adultery is a man single or married that has sex with another man’s wife, so the teaching that says, “a man who looks at any woman to lust after her commits adultery” isn’t true.

Lev 20:10 – if a man commits adultery with another man’s wife, with the wife of his neighbor, both the adulterer and the adulteress must be put to death.

The Greek word for “lust after” in Matthew 5:28 is epithumeó (ep-eethoo meh’-o), epithumeó meansI long for, covet, lust after, set the heart upon”

After reading the definition of adultery in the Old Testament, and after reading what the definition of the word “lust after” means in Matthew 5:28, it is very clear that Matthew 5:28 is not saying, “a man who looks at any woman to lust after her commits adultery with her in his heart”, Matthew 5:28 is saying, “any man who looks at another man’s wife to lust after (covet) her commits adultery with her in his heart.”

Matt 5:28 – whosoever looks on a woman [another man’s wife] to lust after [covet] her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

The statement, “another man’s wife” does not only mean a woman who is currently married, “another man’s wife” is also a woman who has divorced her husband, whose ex-husband is still alive.

A woman who claims to be Christian that divorces her husband and marries another man while her ex-husband  is still alive, is an adulteress, Romans 7:3 makes that very clear.

Rom 7:2 – For the married woman is bound by law to her husband while he is living; but if her husband dies, she is released from the law concerning the husband.

Rom 7:3 – So then, if while her husband is living she is joined to another man, she shall be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is not an adulteress though she is joined to another man.

A woman who claims to be Christian is not supposed to divorce her husband, but if she does divorce her husband, she must remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband, 1 Corinthians 7:10-11 makes that very clear,

therefore if a man who claims to be Christian lusts after (covets) a woman who claims to be Christian that has divorced her husband, whose ex-husband is still alive, the man is coveting another man’s wife, which means he is committing adultery with her in his heart.

1 Cor 7:10 – But to the married people I give charge–not I but the Lord–that the wife is not to separate from her husband.

1 Cor 7:11 – But if she does [separate from and divorce him], let her remain single or else be reconciled to her husband. And [I charge] the husband [also] that he should not put away {or} divorce his wife.

A woman who divorces her husband, who is not born of the Spirit cannot marry another man while her ex-husband is still alive, therefore if a man who claims to be Christian lusts after (covets) her, he is coveting another man’s wife, which means he is committing adultery with her in his heart.

The New Testament makes it very clear that those who commit adultery will not inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Cor. 6:9  do you [those who are born from above (Christian)] not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators [prostitutes, anyone who has sex outside of marriage], nor idolaters [an image worshiper], nor adulterers [a man who is guilty with a married woman, a man who lusts after (covets) another man’s wife (Matt 5:28)], nor effeminate [a man who submits his body to unnatural lewdness], nor homosexuals [any person engaging in same-gender sexual activity],

1 Cor. 6:10  nor thieves [a thief in secret, rather than in the open with violence, an embezzler, a pilferer] nor {the} covetous [greedy of gain, a defrauder, trampling on the rights of others], nor drunkards, nor revilers [reproach (reviling) , injuring another’s reputation by denigrating, abusive insults] nor swindlers [a robber,  an extortioner] will inherit the kingdom of God.

Gal. 5:19  Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality [fornication, whoredom, surrendering of sexual purity, any (every) type of promiscuity, sex outside of marriage], impurity [in a moral sense, the impurity of lustful, luxurious, profligate living],  sensuality [lewdness],

Gal. 5:20  idolatry [image worship], sorcery [the practice of magical arts], enmities [hostility, hatred], strife [a contentious spirit, affection for dispute], jealousy [rivalry], outbursts of anger [anger that comes from the flesh, selfish anger], disputes [selfish rivalry, self-seeking], dissensions [divisions which wrongly divide people into pointless factions], factions [a self-chosen opinion, a religious or philosophical sect, discord or contention].

Gal. 5:21  envying [being glad when someone experiences misfortune or pain],  murders [intentional unjustified homicide], drunkenness [deep drinking, intoxication] carousing [unbridled sexual immorality, debauched partying] and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

A woman who is divorced before she is born of the Spirit can marry another man.

Everything that happens before someone is born of the Spirit is erased after he or she is born of the Spirit, therefore if a woman is divorced before she is born of the Spirit that divorce is erased after she is born of the Spirit, and she can marry again, which means, if a man who claims to be Christian lusts after her, he does not commit adultery with her in his heart.

2 Cor 5:17 – Therefore if anyone be in the Messiah [born of the Spirit], he or she is a new creation: old things have passed away, behold, all things are become new.

It’s a good thing for a man who is single to lust after (long for) a woman, because that longing shows the man who he wants a wife, as long as the woman who the man lusts after (longs for) is not another man’s wife, the man does not commit adultery.

Matt 5:28 is not saying, “a man who looks at any woman to lust after her commits adultery”, Matthew 5:28 is saying, “any man who looks at another man’s wife to lust after (covet) her commits adultery.”

Lev 20:10 – if a man commits adultery with another man’s wife, with the wife of his neighbor, both the adulterer and the adulteress must be put to death.

Matt 5:28 – whosoever looks at a woman [another man’s wife] to lust after [covet] her has committed adultery with her in his heart.

A Christian is someone who is led by the Holy Spirit, no one led by the Holy Spirit will ever say, “a man that is single that looks at any woman to lust after her commits adultery”, because the Bible does not say that. No one led by the Holy Spirit will ever say something different from what the Bible says.

If someone claims to be Christian and says something that does not agree with the truth that is written in the Bible, the person is not led by the Holy Spirit, the person is led by the flesh, those who are led by the flesh are not the children of God.

Rom 8:14 – For all who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.

In the world today there are many people who claim to be Christian that say it is ok for there to be different denominations in the church, that it is ok for a Christian to believe something different from what another Christian believes, but the Bible does not support different denominations in the church, 1 Corinthians 1:10 says that the church is supposed to believe the same thing.

1 Cor. 1:10 – But I urge {and} entreat you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah, that all of you be in perfect harmony {and} full agreement in what you say, and that there be no dissensions {or} factions {or} divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in your common understanding and in your opinions {and} judgments.

Matthew 5:32 The True Meaning Of Fornication

In Matt 5:32, Christ isn’t saying a man can divorce his wife, if she cheats on him while they are married, Christ is saying, a man can divorce his wife, if she was not a virgin before they were married.

The New Testament does not support the teaching that says, “a Christian can divorce his or her spouse, and marry someone else if the husband or wife cheats on his or her spouse”. The only reason a husband can divorce his wife and not commit adultery, is if his wife was not a virgin before they were married.

A woman that has sex before she is married commits fornication, that is the definition of “fornication” in Matthew 5:32 in regards to a husband being allowed to divorce his wife. If a wife deceives her husband into thinking that she was a virgin before they were married, the husband can divorce her and not commit adultery, that’s what Matthew 5:32 is saying. porneia: fornication

The Greek word “poneia” for the word “fornication” in Matthew 5:32 means “fornication, whoredom; met: idolatry”. The Greek word for “fornication” in Matthew 5:32 doesn’t mean “adultery”

Matthew 5:32 is a word for the husband, not the wife, a wife is not supposed to divorce her husband, but if she does divorce her husband, she must remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband, or if her husband dies, she can marry another man.

A man that claims to be Christian, cannot divorce his wife if she cheats on him while they are married, and marry another woman, if a man that claims to be Christian does divorce his wife because she cheats on him while they are married, and marries another woman, the man and the woman that married him are in an adulterous relationship.

Matthew 5:32 – but I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for {the} reason of unchastity, [except the wife not be a virgin before they are married] makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

A woman that claims to be Christian is not supposed to divorce her husband, but if she does divorce her husband, she must remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband, if a woman that claims to be Christian divorces her husband and marries another man, while her first husband is alive, the woman and the man that she married are in an adulterous relationship.

Romans 7:3 – So then, if while her husband is living she is joined to another man, she shall be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is not an adulteress though she is joined to another man.

1 Corinthians 7:10-11 – But to the married people I give charge–not I but the Lord–that the wife is not to separate from her husband.

7:11 – But if she does [separate from and divorce him], let her remain single or else be reconciled to her husband. And [I charge] the husband [also] that he should not put away {or} divorce his wife.

The New Testament makes it very clear that those who commit adultery will not inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 – Do you [those who are born from above] not know that the unrighteous {and} the wrongdoers will not inherit {or} have any share in the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived (misled): neither the impure {and} immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor those who participate in homosexuality,

6:10 – Nor cheats (swindlers and thieves), nor greedy graspers, nor drunkards, nor foulmouthed revilers {and} slanderers, nor extortioners {and} robbers will inherit {or} have any share in the kingdom of God.

Galatians – 5:19-21 – Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

5:20 – Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

5:21 – Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

A Christian is someone that is led by the Holy Spirit, no one led by the Holy Spirit commits adultery, that means that those that claim to be Christian that commit adultery are not led by the Holy Spirit, those who are not led by the Holy Spirit, are led by the flesh, no one led by the flesh is a child of God.

Romans 8:13-14 – For if you live according to [the dictates of] the flesh, you will surely die. But if through the power of the [Holy] Spirit you are [habitually] putting to death (making extinct, deadening) the [evil] deeds prompted by the body, you shall [really and genuinely] live forever.

8:14 – For all who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.

A New Creation

The bible was written to the church, it was not written to the world, therefore whatever someone does before he or she is born of the Spirit is erased in the eyes of God once someone is born of the Spirit, a person born of the Spirit is a new creation, old things have passed away, all things have become new (2 Cor. 5:17) that means that if a man or a woman is divorced before he or she is born of the Spirit, that divorce is erased, and the man or woman that is born of the Spirit can marry again, but if the man or woman does marry again after being born of the Spirit, then what the New Testament says about marriage is what the born of the Spirit man or woman must follow

As far as marriage is concerned, this what the New Testament supports

A man that divorces his wife because his wife commits fornication [because his wife was not a virgin before they were married], can marry another woman without committing adultery

A man that has divorced his wife because she committed fornication [because his wife was not a virgin before they were married], can marry a woman that has never been married, can marry a woman that was divorced before she was born of the Spirit, and can marry a woman who has been married whose husband has died

A man that divorces his wife apart from her committing fornication [apart from her not being a virgin before the man married her], and marries another woman, commits adultery (Matt 19:9)

Matt 19:9 And I say to you, whosoever shall divorce his wife, except it be for fornication [except it be for his wife not being a virgin before they were married] , and shall marry another, commits adultery: and whoso marries her that is is divorced, commits adultery

A man that is single can marry a woman that has never been married, can marry a woman that was divorced before she was born of the Spirit & can marry a woman who has been married whose husband has died

A woman that is born of the Spirit that is divorced whose husband (the man that she married after she was born of the Spirit) is still alive cannot marry another man until her husband (the man that she divorced or that divorced her after she was born of the Spirit) dies

A man that is divorced or single that marries a woman that is divorced whose husband (the man that she married after she was born of the Spirit) is still alive, commits adultery & a woman that is divorced that marries another man while her first husband (the man that she divorced or that divorced her after she is born of the Spirit) is still alive, commits adultery

The New Testament makes it very clear that those who commit adultery are led by the flesh & those who are led by the flesh will not inherit the kingdom of God (1 Co. 6:9-10 & Gal 5:19-23)

Matt 5:32 But I say to you, that whosoever shall divorce his wife, except for fornication [except for his wife not being a virgin before they were married], causes her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced commits adultery.

Romans 7:3 So then if, while her husband is living and she is joined to another man, she shall be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is not an adulteress, though she is joined to another man

1 Cor 7:10-11 But to the married I give instructions, not I, but the Messiah, that the wife should not leave her husband, but if she does leave, let her remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband, and that the husband should not leave his wife

1 Cor. 6:9-10 Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, not idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God

Gal 5:19-23 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are these; adultery, fornication, uncleaness, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, witchcraft, hatred, contentions, jealousies, wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forwarned you that those who practice such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God

2 Cor. 5:17 Therefore if anyone be in the Messiah [born of God], he or she is a new creation, old things have passed away, behold all things have become new

1 John 3:9 No one born of God practices sin

1 John 5:1 whosoever believes that Yeshua is the Messiah is born of God

Marriage, Divorce And Remarriage

This post has nothing to with anything that someone does before they are born of God, if a man or woman is divorced before they are born of God, that divorce is erased after the man or woman is born of God

As far as marriage is concerned for those after they are born of God, this what the New Testament supports

A man that divorces his wife because his wife commits fornication [because his wife was not a virgin before the man married her], can marry another woman without committing adultery.

A man that has divorced his wife because she committed fornication [because she was not a virgin before the man married her] can marry a woman that has never been married, can marry a woman that was divorced before she was born of God, and can marry a woman who has been married whose husband has died

A man that divorces his wife apart from her committing fornication [apart from her not being a virgin before the man married her], and marries another woman, commits adultery (Matt 19:9)

Matt 19:9 And I say to you, whosoever shall divorce his wife, except it be for fornication [except for his wife not being a virgin before they were married], and shall marry another, commits adultery: and whoso marries her that is is divorced, commits adultery

A man that is single can marry a woman that has never been married, can marry a woman that was divorced before she was born of God, and can marry a woman who has been married whose husband has died

A woman that is divorced after she is born of God, whose ex-husband is still alive cannot marry another man

A man that is divorced or single that marries a woman that is divorced after she is born of God, whose ex-husband is still alive, commits adultery and a woman that is divorced after she is born of God that marries another man while her first husband is still alive, commits adultery

Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, not idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God

Marriage

The truth is, a woman that is Christian that is married is not supposed to leave her husband & marry another man, if she does leave her husband & marry another man, she shall be called an adulteress until her first husband dies.

If a woman that is Christian that is married leaves her husband, she must remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband, but if her husband dies, she may remarry

Romans 7:3 so then if, while her husband is alive, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man

1 Cor. 7:10 And to the married I command, yet not I, but the Messiah, let not the wife depart from her husband: but and if she depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband divorce his wife
