The True Meaning Of “Keep” (Jn 14)

The Greek word for the word “keep” in John 14:15 & John 14:24 means “guard, to watch over”, in John 14:15 & 14:24, the Messiah isn’t saying, “if you love Me “do” my commandments”, he is saying, “if you love me, keep (guard, do not change) my commandments.”

The Pharisees had changed the law that God gave Moses, that is why the Messiah said, if you love me “keep” (téreó) (guard, watch over, don’t change) my commandments”

John 14:15 – If you love Me, you will keep [guard, will not change] my commandments.

John 14:24 – He who does not love me does not keep [guard, watch over [he] changes] my words; and the word which you hear is not mine, but the Father’s [God’s] who sent me.

John 15:10 – If you keep [guard, do not change] my commandments, you will abide in my love; just as I have kept [guarded], have not changed] my Father’s commandments and abide in His love.

1 John 2:3 – By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep [guard, do not change] His commandments.

1 John 2:4 -The one who says, “I have come to know Him, and does not keep [does not guard, or changes] His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him,

1 John 2:5 – whoever keeps [guards, does not change] His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him:

Only those who are born from above (born of the Spirit), guard, do not change, the commandments that God had the Messiah give to the disciples. Since the Messiah was sent by God to speak the truth, the Messiah’s commandments are God’s Commandments, those who say they are born of God that change the Messiah’s commandments are not led by the Spirit, those who are not led by the Spirit are either deceived or not born from above.

To be born from above, a person must first believe that God’s Son, Yeshua is the Messiah, and then, God willing, God will baptize the person in the Holy Spirit, it is the baptism in the Holy Spirit that makes a person stop practicing sin, once God baptizes someone in the Holy Spirit, the person is born from above.

Only those who believe that Yeshua is the Messiah that no longer practice sin are born from above.

1 John 5:1 Whosoever believes that Yeshua is the Messiah is born of God [born of the Spirit].

1 John 3:9 No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed [the Holy Spirit] abides in him or her; and he or she cannot sin, because he or she is born of God.
